“Dancing as a beautiful, social sport should be accessible to all: from young to old, from beginner to professional. In order to create an appropriate offer for all, I have been committed to the association since its foundation.”

Axel Bomhauer-Beins is an ETH electrical engineer (Master's degree 2014) with a PhD in transport engineering (ETH, graduation 2019). Since then, he has been working primarily as a project manager and project engineer in transport engineering with a focus on safety.

Axel has been dancing since 2005: After his first dance classes at a dance school in the city of Zurich, a short excursion into standard ballroom dancing followed, before he began a part-time professional training as a dance teacher in 2018. He continues this training today in the spirit of constant further development. His experience and knowledge flow directly into the association's management and in particular his role as Head of Sports, in which he is responsible for the association's entire education programme.

“My dance journey began in 2017—and it was love at first sight. Dancing offers me the unique opportunity to escape the academic hustle and bustle, switch off my mind and tune into the rhythm of my body.”

Viera is a mathematician (ETH Master's degree in 2022) and currently works as a research assistant and doctoral student in the field of optimisation.

Viera has been actively dancing since 2011, first in the tap dance group at her high school and later (since 2017) in Ballroom Dancing and Zouk. She has experience as an assistant dance teacher in both areas. Since 2019, she has been involved in TC Academia both as an event manager and as an assistant dance teacher; she has also been a board member since 2023.

Get Involved!

Currently, various positions in the association's management are vacant or only filled "ad interim". In addition, it is possible to work in the team on (almost) every topic of an administrative position.

We are currently looking for reinforcement ...

  • ... in the board and in the administration/staff.
  • ... in the SDE organisation.
  • ... in the programming of our online tools (PHP/MySQL/HTML/CSS).
  • ... for the search and later support of sponsors.
  • ... in the area of advertising.

Could one of the vacancies interest you?
Would you like to be involved in another position?

The responsible staff member, the responsible board member or the entire board () will be happy to provide information—and also a non-binding "taster" is gladly possible! We look forward to hearing from you!

Board

The Board is the highest strategic and operational body; it manages and is responsible for the fate and actions of the Association.

The members of the Board are at least one President and a maximum of seven persons. They are elected by the General Assembly for a term of two years; re-election is possible without restriction. They divide the tasks, which are divided into departments, among themselves:

  • Presidium
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Finances & Law
  • Sports
  • Operations
  • Actuary
  • Assessor

If there are fewer people on the Board than there are positions, one person can take on several positions—or the tasks of the vacant position(s) are divided among the Board members. The division of tasks between the Board and the staff is not sharply defined and allows for shifts according to the skills and preferences of the contributors.

Board members are authorised to represent the association with legal effect.

Administration

The administration is the operational management of the association, which reports directly to the Board; the administation (Stab) is defined in the statutes. Leaders of administrative positions are appointed and dismissed by the Board; they manage their section on their own responsibility.

The administrative positions are each assigned to a Board department; the responsible department head is accountable to the General Assembly. In practice, however, the hierarchy always adapts to the current boundary conditions; the term “Stab” is only used in a formalistic way.

Management

According to the statutes, the management consists of board, staff, committees, and delegates, whereby only the board is mandatory. In order to take account of the various requirements and responsibilities, a distinction is made between different hierarchical levels in the association management:

1st level
Responsibility for management, legal representation:
President, Vice President, Managing Director (CEO).

2nd level
Responsibility for functional areas:
Chief Marketing & Communications (CMCO), Chief Finance & Legal (CFO), Chief Sports (CSO), Chief Operations (COO); Actuary.

3rd level
Responsibility for specialised areas:
Director of Accounting, Director of Event Management; Committee Directors, etc.

4th level
Staff functions, responsibility for teams:
Assessor, Legal Advisor, Archivist, Head of Social Media; Delegates etc.

5th level
Responsibility for specialist areas:
For example, Instagram Manager.

Levels 1 to 2 are Executive Board positions, with level 1 primarily comprising representational tasks, level 2 primarily administrative tasks.
Staff positions within the meaning of the Statutes are found at level 3 and, in some cases, level 4. One exception is the Assessor at level 4, who is also a member of the Executive Board.
Parts of the 4th to 5th levels can be regarded as “extended association management”, but their members do not have to be formally appointed by the Executive Board.
