Involvement and Membership
You like to dance, especially standard and Latin dances?
You think dancing should be something that is fun to do together?
You like the Social Dance Evening and would like it to continue?
Then these are already three of several good reasons to be involved with Tanzclub Academia—or/and to become a member!
You can participate in many different ways, with more or less time commitment:
- As a helper at events organised by the association, e.g. at the bar, setting up/breaking down, as a DJ, etc. In general, you can earn your entry to the event (or at least a significant discount) this way—for the very hard-working, there are even discount vouchers for our course programme!
- In the administration team, because an association like this is a lot of work: from designing printed materials and online media to maintaining content on the website, from organising events to bookkeeping and invoicing and clarifying legal issues to maintaining contacts and negotiating with existing and new partners of the association. We are happy for every helping hand—just talk to us, e.g. at an SDE, or write us an email!
As an active member, all of the above options are of course open to you—with additional bonuses, because as an active member
- you receive discounts—up to 35 %—on our courses, other club offers and partner offers!
- you get access to the members area and to special support regarding your dancing!
- you are entitled to vote and stand for election at the General Assembly, so you can help shape the future of the association!
In return, however, we also expect you to
- actually take part in the general assembly. Because the association belongs to its members—and if they don't say what they want, the association may become incapable of acting. And we don't want that.
- help at least once twice a year at one of the association's events.
- pay your membership fee on time.
In addition, we greatly appreciate it if our active members volunteer at least once or twice a year at an event, e.g. an SDE, and/or volunteer in other ways for the association.
In the management of the association, especially committed active members are involved. For example, as leader of a administrative position (possible without membership) or in the board of directors (active membership required): If you would like to take on more responsibility, we welcome you!
However, please be aware that the higher you are in the hierarchy and the more responsibility you take on, the greater the effort and obligation. For example, board members are elected by the general assembly for two years - and implicitly we expect board members to stay for at least two terms, i.e. four years, and to observe a “notice period” of at least three months.
In the association management, the work is to be done on a voluntary basis to the extent of up to 100 hours per year. In return, committed leaders of administrative positions receive a discount on the membership fee; board members are exempt from the membership fee.
Passive members are dedicated to the objectives of the association, but—as the name suggests—rather passive. They support the association financially by paying an annual contribution; in return they receive access to internal association information and are invited to the general assembly as guests (neither entitled to vote nor to be elected).
Constributions.
Active Membership: CHF 120; Discounts for students up to 29 years (25 %) and young people under 18 years of age (50 %). Gradual reduction if joining during the year; details can be obtained from the Board.
Passive Members: CHF 60 per year, discounts as for active members.
