Our Mission
Twyla Tharp once said "Dance should not divide people into audience and performers. Everyone should be a participant, whether they go to class, attend special events or rehearsals". True to this motto, it is a matter close to the heart of Tanzclub Academia to give everyone and anyone interested the opportunity to dance.
We make ballroom dancing accessible to everyone, regardless of age or skill level—Standard and Latin, including excursions into Rhythm and Discofox, are the core competence of Tanzclub Academia.
Originating from a student dance course for which there was no follow-up solution, we see our strength in the fact that we are at home between dance school and competitive dancing: We take the fun out of dance school and add those aspects from ballroom dancing that make dancing even more enjoyable, allow even more fun—and always keep a balanced view.
We accompany our members and course participants from the first step onto the dance floor and as far as they wish. After the introductory courses, everyone can look for and choose their place—be it a weekly training, a student formation or ballroom dancing: we support as best we can. In any case, we believe that application is a part of dancing. That's why we provide opportunities to apply what you've learned in a relaxed yet stylish setting. We also strive to provide training opportunities that allow for concentrated consideration of the subject.
We are open to newcomers of all ages and levels. From 16 year old competitive dancers to 80 year olds who want to try something new: We welcome you all! Our training concept offers a suitable solution and a path to the desired goal for everyone.
We offer fun and good quality. We want to look at all aspects of dancing and enable our members and course participants to develop all aspects of dance. That is why we not only look at the steps, but also at how they work—without losing sight of the fun and social application. The internationally recognised syllabi of the renowned associations ISTD and IDTA serve as our guideline.
We are a sociable association. We promote the togetherness of our members on and off the dance floor. Friendly interaction and mutual support is not only the norm on the dance floor, but also within the framework of our club events, which promote our togetherness.
We support individually. Within the scope of our possibilities, we support our members in their dance development. In particular, we motivate advanced dancers from our trainings to take an interest in teaching and to further develop our wonderful hobby. To ensure quality, the club has a well thought out and designed teacher training programme.
We offer life experience. Anyone who wants to get involved with the association and its purpose is welcome! Valuable experience can be gained from small and large, but always practically relevant tasks. To make this possible, we cultivate open communication and a constructive, goal-oriented culture of error. Because we know very well that no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes.
